UNITED FEDERATION OF CANADIAN VETERANS

I came across Dan and his organization, the United Federation of Canadian Veterans (UFOCV), a few years ago. Its purpose is straightforward: give veterans a voice, make sure they are heard, and stand beside them when they need help.
The federation’s beginnings date back to 2012, when a woman veteran reached out in crisis. Attempts to bring her situation to senior Canadian Armed Forces leadership were met with silence. That experience helped shape its mission: supporting veterans who feel ignored or let down by the institutions meant to help them.
Built around veterans helping veterans, UFOCV supports people across military branches and backgrounds, including RCMP veterans. Its practical work includes assistance with Veterans Affairs claims, peer support, connections to wellness resources, and help for veterans and families facing difficult circumstances.
Its advocacy also addresses homelessness, military sexual trauma and the needs of women veterans. Federation representative Diane Hill Rose has described volunteers answering late-night messages, travelling to assist veterans and using their own resources to help.
That personal commitment is what drew me to the organization—people willing to listen, show up and stand beside a fellow veteran when things get difficult.
Veteran Coins supports UFOCV because it works where the rubber meets the road—helping the people behind the uniform.
